Mini Review: Tooth and Tail
Tooth and Tail is a real time strategy(RTS) game where you play
as four factions fighting for the right to be on top of the food chain, literally.
The story takes place in a world ruled by animals, in the midst of a civil war.
Those who will win the war will get to fill their bellies with meat. Those who
lose will become dinner.
I had a surprising
fun time playing Tooth and Tail. There are many things that help
distinguish it from other games in the genre. For one, all the art assets in
the game are pixel art, which gives it an overall beautiful and unique aesthetic.
The maps are randomly generated, which usually helps add uniqueness to each match,
although it occasionally creates terrain favouring one player over the other, which
can lead to some frustrating moments. Each
match is quick (around 15-20 minutes) and it isn’t too hard to get used to the
gameplay. This is thanks to the unit and resource management system, as well as
the controls themselves, being much simpler compared to other RTS games. The controls
are simple enough that you could even play the game with a controller,
something impossible to pull off in other mainstream RTS games.
Overall, Tooth and Tail
provides a unique and fun gameplay experience, and its simplicity makes it a perfect
fit for newcomers to the genre, or anyone looking for a more casual RTS
experience.
